The Human Rights Association of Andalusia, the Roma Association Welcomes Motril Anaquerando and want to state that:
- believe that expulsion has been a disguised voluntary repatriation to Romania of some of the families who lived in this settlement.
- The process has never been accompanied by a comprehensive and coordinated action by Social Services Motril, which could have articulated alternative in this situation of insecurity in the home.
- The approval of evacuation, repatriation and demolition of the settlement has been marked by a total lack of transparency . The signatory associations suggested in an open letter to the Mayor of Motril help in this situation, which could provide alternatives given their experience in similar cases. At no time have they been contacted.
Welcomes Motril, APDHA Anaquerando and are extremely concerned that this expulsion disguised because of ethnicity of those affected. In the Decade Inclusion of such actions Gypsies are unacceptable and encourage racist and xenophobic attitudes. also violate human rights and give continuity to the unacceptable expulsions of Roma people (gypsies in Eastern Europe) started by France, Britain and Germany.
hope that the statements in the plenary on 29 October municipal councilor Antonio Escámez, a member of the ruling group, which described the Romanian gypsies as "an itinerant race that likes to live in shacks surrounded dogs, making fires and eating from garbage "are not representative of feel of the coalition to power in Motril. However, these claims have not had any political implications or have been denied and also have been reinforced by the expulsion of the families affected.
